A school uniform is one of the identities of the school. Many educators and sociology experts believe that students who wear school uniforms perform better academically in school. Students are often so focused on their wardrobe that it distracts them from learning. Students are also so distracted by looking and picking on each others clothes or the way others dress up. Many students feel that they are judged according to what they wear by other students, as well as by teachers and administrators. School uniforms remove these factors from the social environment within the school, thus relieving students from the pressure to fit in. It is also very affordable for many families. So I would like to open a uniform store that has clothes with a logo of David Thompson.
I would also like to bring the food that majority of David Thompson would like to eat such as Regular chips, Chocolates, Pops, Ice Creams. Why? Well here’s the thing, since David Thompson decided to go on healthy living plan, pretty much all the students are going out during break and lunch to get themselves snacks. In fact they are consuming double the amount of unhealthy food than before. DT itself is facing the downfall in making profits so why not just bring back the food that majority of students want and make profit as well.

ReplyDeleteI like the idea of school uniforms because that's something I always wanted to try. I agree that it can sometimes be very distracting and easy to judge others. The start up cost of this idea would be incredibly high because it's expensive to get customized clothing, especially getting a big amount of them. Also this idea will only be high demand in a certain period of time.
ReplyDeleteSelling junk food would be a bit hard because there's big competitors like trojan market, cafeteria and even the vending machines. Though most of their food are quite healthy, they do sell some sweets like cookies or icecream bars. Also this idea will more likely promote consuming too much sweets.

I totally agree with what you have to say about the school uniforms. If our school were to open a school uniform store and enforce students to wear uniforms, the school and the students would ultimately benefit from it.
ReplyDeleteI do not totally agree with the junk food idea because this would cause an increase in the consumption of fats and sugars. Our school cut the sale of these items for a reason and to sell it again would be a catastrophe because it would make it much more convenient for students to buy these goods.
I like the idea of school uniforms, but it would be hard to put those things on sale. Unless our school has an enforced dress code, I think it will be hard to sell school attire. And if it was mandatory, it would have to be paid for by in the school fees.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of bringing back junk food in the school. First person who has a rep of selling junk food out of their locker will make a fortune. That is not to encourage anyone to do it but to put them on sale in the school would not happen. The school didn't choose to get rid of the junk, but was forced to by the Ministy of Health and Education. To get them to approve of it would be a miracle.
I am on the fence with school uniforms but I'm going to disagree with you on the it being affordable for families. Yes, it is in the long run because they'd spend less on other clothing in general. However, in my past experience, just a screen print on a teeshirt cost $25 and it was only a teeshirt. I think that with school uniforms, it'd get pricey and at the end of the day, you'd make little profit.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of bringing junk food back to the school because it'll easily attract your customers away from competitors who are on the health regulation by the Ministry.
Well school uniforms is more of a mixed area, there isn't really a dress code at school which as Matthew mentioned difficult to sell school attire. The way i see this going is that it's more of a niche area, it's still a viable business.
ReplyDeleteAs for junk food, it's probably one of the better ideas out there as people are constantly looking for this junk food that was taken away due to health regulations. It may not be great for health and well-being but it'll be a good venture to go into.

The school uniforms sound like a great idea. Having a dress code would benefit the entire school, but the practicality of it is that many students will not be so easily persuaded into accepting these uniforms. Also it does not seem to be a hugely profitable business, as you'd also have to produce enough uniforms for every student in school. And another thing to think about is that there won't be a constant demand for this market with a target market such as a school, because after everyone has purchased their uniforms, it will be unlikely that they will purchase more.
ReplyDeleteThe junk food venture is a great idea, as students at school are always craving it. There is great potential in this market as there have been many signs of success, like the vending machines and the Trojan market, all of which have great business.
For the first venture idea I think it would be cool to have uniform but not everyone will like it. Some students might complain about it and won't buy it. This way it will make the students feel like they have no more freedom. Overall I don’t think school uniform will be successful because it is hard to make every student to buy it.
ReplyDeleteFor the second venture idea, yes if you decided to sell junk food you can make lots of profit, but it’s not business ethnic. I think sometimes business ethnic is more important than profit. If you decide to sell it at school, don’t we have to follow the healthy guidelines in order to sell it? There is also competition near by such as seven eleven.

School uniforms is a pretty good because if you don't know what to wear on one day a uniform would never go wrong also is makes our school look unified posing a great image to society. Problems that might occur are students tolerance.
ReplyDeleteSelling junk food is a decent idea since there are already competitors so it would be kind of difficult to get it going. Overall I think this idea is not profitable.
I don't like the idea of selling school uniforms, because if you do, you will need to mass produce over 1800 uniforms, and costs to make them would be extremely high. This venture idea may not work.
ReplyDeleteAs for your second venture idea, if you are able to sell junk food, it will cause a great deal of demand. With demand, comes profit. However, it will be going against the Healthy Schools Act, meaning it will not be ethically responsible the our school.
I strongly like your idea of selling school uniforms however, I don't think this idea has a high market potential in terms of success for your business. Having school uniforms wont' only result in extremely high start-up costs but will also face decline to quite an extent by the students. Not every student will be willing to throw their wardrobe away and adapt to school uniforms. This will have a direct impact on your profit.
ReplyDeleteYour second venture idea however is highly impressive. Personally, I love junk food and that's in no different than other students. Due to your target market being the dt students, and most teens these days having the craze for junk food, your venture idea will be highly successful. You also don't have to worry about a high competition since the trojan market and the wending machines sell only healty foods. This idea will surely earn your team a substantial profit!
I agree with you on the school uniform idea because a lot of students get discriminated for the way their dress on regular school days. Maybe some are poorer than others and don't have enough money to afford new clothes for their children in order for them to follow up on trends.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about selling the "foods that we want to eat" idea in our school. Because we do have school policies of healthy eating and icecream is not healthy for sure.
I really like your first venture idea about school uniforms because students have the choice to wear them. Some may not like the idea but some may so you could actually profit fairly a lot. Your start up would be expensive since your getting customized clothing and if you want to give the students more choices to choose from it’s going to be even more pricy. I like the idea of bringing junk food back because the school is just losing more profit if the students go out, spend more and consume more too.

I like your DT uniform idea and the explanation to why you’d want to implement them. I can really relate to the things you’ve stated in the above, especially with always having to make a decision with what to wear every morning. I was just wondering what the uniforms would actually look like because since we’re attending public school, it wouldn’t look something similar to private school clothing would it? It’d have to be wearable and to the liking of the majority of the students. Also, since it is something for the school the price has to be very affordable for again, the majority of students.
ReplyDeleteOn your idea of bringing “junk food” back or food that the school no longer carries, you could definitely have potential customers because it does bring convenience to their purchasing needs. Something you’d like to consider though, is how much you’re going to be selling your snacks for because if it’s going to cost more than how much they’re getting it for from other nearby places they might not buy from you. They might rather go the extra walking distance to save money. Just keep in mind that your prices have to be on an even balance of breaking even and making a little profit, at the same time meeting your customers desires of providing certain snacks.
Overall, you have good ideas Nitasha. Good luck on your venture. :)
I like the school uniform idea. I’ve always wanted to wear a school uniform to school. It is much more convenient for us girls. Why? Because I, myself, take forever picking out an outfit. If we have school uniform, we won’t have to worry about looking good/bad. Most of all, not getting judged by.
ReplyDeleteI agree with bringing junk food back. Student can always buy junk food outside and bring it back to school. So, why not bring funk food back and make a profit.
Not many high schools that are public use school uniforms. But I do like the idea so I wonder how will it work out. I agree with the whole "junk food bringing back," cause it's true, you make us walk to other stores outside school and probably end up skipping after lunch as well.
